Doherty Blast Mar 8, 2024
Dear Doherty Families,
We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Cultural Connections Week! This week-long exploration into the country of Nigeria is designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse cultures that make our world interconnected.
We have a special treat in store for our students — a visit from Praise Eking and his group of traditional Nigerian dancers and drummers! This promises to be an exciting opportunity for our students to witness the rich music and dance forms that are integral to Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
We encourage you to drop by and witness the metamorphosis of the Haile and Jones hallways into vibrant showcases of Nigerian culture.
Spring Break is just around the corner! Our break kicks off on Friday, March 15, at dismissal and classes will resume on Monday, April 1. As we return, mark your calendars for some exciting events: an author visit with Nancy Chumin on Monday, April 8, the Unit III overnight trip to Glen Helen on April 10-12, our Arts Alive program after school on Friday, April 26, and our Drama Night for kindergarten through third grade on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. Get ready for a fantastic return to school with these engaging activities!
We would like to extend an invitation for you to join us at the kindergarten through third grade Drama Night on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. While all students are welcome to participate, it is not mandatory. This event is meant to offer families a glimpse into what happens during our drama classes and are not full productions.
The kindergarteners are eager to present their achievements, featuring “Somebody and the Three Blairs” and a showcase of their set design work. Unit I students will enchant the audience with “Giraffes Can’t Dance” and also showcase their endeavors in costume design. From Unit II students, expect snippets from “Totally Red” and a display of their creative prop design. We look forward to sharing this delightful evening with you!
Ramadan is fast approaching, and we understand its significance for many families. If your child will be fasting or needs a dedicated prayer space during Ramadan, please let us know so that we can ensure proper arrangements.
Have a great weekend. Don’t forget to move your clocks forward!
Tracy
