Doherty Blast Feb 9, 2024
Dear Doherty Families,
We continue to embark on a journey of learning and growth and are thrilled to share some exciting events that have happened in our school community.
Our kindergarten students have reached an important milestone — the 100th day of school! They celebrated this special day with various activities centered around the theme of 100. They finished their celebration by parading for the school as their 100-year-old selves.
In the spirit of embracing diversity and cultural awareness, our pre-kindergarten for 2-year-olds through pre-kindergarten students celebrated the Lunar New Year. This celebration allowed the students to learn about the traditions, customs, and rich cultural heritage associated with Lunar New Year. Thank you to the families who visited and shared their traditions and stories.
Our second and third grade students have been delving into the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through his son’s eyes. The students have explored the importance of equity, justice, and the power of peaceful protest. As a part of this learning journey, the students engaged in a creative writing project where they expressed their thoughts on following in Dr. King’s footsteps to impact their community positively.
You will receive your parent teacher conference sign-up information on Monday, Feb. 12. Please let us know if you do not receive it.
Lastly, we would like to congratulate Senora Diersing on her new baby boy, Luke Tomas Diersing, who was born on Feb. 1! Mom and baby are doing well.
Have a great weekend.
Tracy

Arts Alive — Call for Performers
Are you interested in having your group perform at Arts Alive? We are looking for acts to perform on the outdoor stages and in the DAC Blackbox. Last year, we had some wonderful performances by student organized groups, and we would love to have that continue this year. Arts Alive is intended to celebrate all of the artistry within our community. Please note that this is not a talent show and that groups should have a couple of pieces, totaling approximately 10-25 minutes, performed as a set. If you would like to be considered, please complete the Arts Alive performers Google form and upload a video of your act. We will be accepting submissions from now through Feb. 20 and will let acts know if they are accepted by Spring Break. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Hauser.

Winter Family Social
Please join us on Friday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Urban Air Adventure Park. The entire space will be closed to the public at this time and will be just for Doherty students and their families. The school will be closed for professional development so this will be a good way to get some energy out! Attractions include trampolines, warrior courses, climbing walls, tubes playground, ropes courses, and much more (some height restrictions apply). Sign up for Urban Air.
The cost is $20 for ultimate tickets (age 6 and older). Ultimate tickets are valid for all attractions in the facility. The cost is $10 for deluxe tickets (age 5 and younger). Deluxe tickets do not include access to the climbing wall (must be 41” tall), sky rider and ropes course (must be 48” tall), or laser tag. If your 5-year-old or younger child is tall enough and wants to participate in ultimate attractions, you will need to purchase an ultimate ticket instead.
Parents and chaperones do not need to purchase a ticket for themselves if they are not participating. If the cost of attending this event prevents your child from participating, please contact Tracy Murch to discuss financial assistance. All requests are strictly confidential. Tickets are limited and must be purchased by end-of-day Feb. 8!
LGBTQIA+ Parent Group and Spring Social
Last year, we inaugurated a Parent Community space for LGBTQIA+ families, making strides toward our inclusive school commitment. As we embark on a new year, we aim to reunite existing families and extend a warm welcome to new families joining our community. If you’re interested in becoming a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, please express your interest with this LGBTQIA+ PC Group interest form.
Additionally, we cordially invite all Seven Hills LGBTQIA+ families to our Spring Social on March 9 from 12-2 p.m. in The Schiff Center lobby. Kindly RSVP using the above interest form, and bring your family to partake in the festivities.
