Doherty Blast Nov 3, 2023
Dear Doherty Families,
First and foremost, I want to thank Cari Fennell and her team who made the Doherty Spooktacular happen. It was a fun-filled event that the students enjoyed to the fullest.
We had a short but full week, headed off by our traditional Halloween parade. It was great to see so many parents in attendance; the students loved showing off their costumes.
We also launched our annual Book Fair. The Doherty and Lotspeich librarians work to bring together a collection that reaches all our students. This is a fantastic way to pick up high-quality gifts for the quickly approaching holidays. From Nov. 1-13, during their library class, students will have the opportunity to preview the exciting books available at the Book Fair right in the Doherty Library. We welcome families to drop in and browse the fantastic book selection in the morning during drop-off between 8-8:30 a.m. You will receive an email with a link to the website for ordering books. It’s a great way to explore even more options and make your selections. Most books ordered from the Book Fair will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom before winter break. If you have any questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Doherty librarian Jo Schnirring. Thank you to Mrs. Schnirring and all of our volunteers who make this important event possible!
We have completed our first round of Parent Conferences, and I know the teachers enjoy sharing what they know about your child with you. Please note that our next conferences are Feb. 22 and 23. There will be an early dismissal (11:30 a.m.) on Feb. 22 for students in grades 1-5 and no school on Feb. 23. This was not indicated on the original master calendar.
Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to turn your clocks back on Sunday.

Parent Euchre Night Is Back!
Doherty and Lotspeich parents: join us for a night of parental socializing (and cards) at MadTree on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.! If you’re new to the glorious game of euchre, don’t fret — it’s (relatively) easy to learn, and you’ll be among patient Midwesterners. The hardest part is not getting wing sauce on the cards. Let us know you’re coming by grabbing a “Euchre Player” slot in the sign ups here. See you at the table with the blue and yellow balloons! No interest in cards but still want to hang? Come on out!
Parent Coffee/Holiday Social — Dec. 8
Please join us for a parent coffee meet-up after drop off at Bean & Barley on Dec. 8. This is not a meeting — just for fun and socializing. See you there!
