Doherty Blast Oct 27, 2023
Dear Doherty Families,
Our students did a fantastic job participating in Safety Week. All of our drills ran smoothly and without incident. Kudos to our teachers and students. The highlight was a visit from local firefighters, police officers, and a SWAT team who explained the mechanics and functions of their vehicles with students.
Next week is a short week for students. There is no school Wednesday through Friday due to Parent Conferences and a professional development day for faculty. If you need to sign up for your conferences online, please do so as soon as possible. If you have not received the link to sign up, let us know, and we will get that to you.
The Doherty Halloween Parade is on Oct. 31 at 8:40 a.m. Parents are invited to attend; please park in the parking lot, as the students will parade in the driveway. Parents can line the driveway on the sidewalk to watch the parade. Remember that we ask children not to come to school with masks, weapons, or make up. Keep in mind that we have a wide range of ages, and some of our younger students can become frightened by scary costumes.
We hope to see you at our Spooktacular tonight from 4-6 p.m.!
Unit III continues to provide us with the Doherty News. To enjoy their special “Spooky” edition, click here.
Don’t forget that our clocks move back on Nov. 5!
Have a great weekend.
Tracy

Due to weather, Spooktacular will now be held on Friday, Oct. 27, from 4-6 p.m. We still need more volunteers, please sign up here if you can. Thank you so much for your flexibility!
Doherty Halloween Parade
The annual Halloween Parade will be on Tuesday morning, Oct. 31. Parents will gather after drop-off and wait for the students to parade down the driveway in their costumes at 8:40 a.m.. You won’t want to miss this cute tradition; it only lasts about 10 minutes!
The Doherty Book Fair is Just Around the Corner!
We’re thrilled to announce that the Bookshelf in Madeira and the Doherty Library are teaming up to bring the Book Fair back to our school. From Nov. 1-13, during their library class, students will have the opportunity to preview the exciting books available at the Book Fair right in the Doherty Library. We welcome families to drop in and browse the fantastic book selection in the morning during drop-off between 8-8:30 a.m. For added convenience, we’ll also have book browsing available during parent-teacher conferences on Nov. 1 and 2. On Nov. 1, you’ll receive an email with a link to the website for ordering books. It’s a great way to explore even more options and make your selections. Most books ordered from the Book Fair will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom before winter break. Get ready for an exciting literary adventure at the Doherty Book Fair. Stay tuned for more updates and happy reading! If you have any questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Doherty librarian, Jo Schnirring.
Parent Euchre Night Is Back!
Doherty and Lotspeich parents: join us for a night of parental socializing (and cards) at MadTree! If you’re new to the glorious game of euchre, don’t fret — it’s (relatively) easy to learn, and you’ll be among patient Midwesterners. The hardest part is not getting wing sauce on the cards. Let us know you’re coming by grabbing a “Euchre Player” slot in the sign ups here. See you at the table with the blue and yellow balloons! No interest in cards but still want to hang? Come on out!
After the Bell Updates
Encore Club
Encore Club is in full swing! We are now launching a weekly sign-up, with options to pick up at 4:15 p.m. or stay until 6 p.m. This is all available in your parent portal the Friday prior to the month starting. If you need a drop-in, please fill out a request under the Student Logistics request, and we will approve if space is available.
Enrichment Programs
The next session of Enrichment Programs begins Nov. 6 and we have just a few spots left! Check your parent portal under the link Enrichment Programs to see what we have available. Have an idea for an enrichment program that you want to share with us? Send Jill and Christina an email with ideas!
Walking Club — New meet-up location
We are a group of parents that get together bi-weekly on Wednesdays after morning drop off to talk and walk the lower soccer field. All divisions are welcome and no RSVP required. This group provides you a great opportunity to connect with other community members all while getting your steps in! Please park in the lower field parking area, campus guest passes will be passed out to ensure visibility, for security purposes. When inclement weather occurs, we gather at Element Eatery to chat. Our next meet-up is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Subsequent dates are Nov. 29, Dec. 13, and Jan. 10, 2024. I look forward to chatting with you soon.
