Dear Seven Hills Families,
As we round the turn into the homestretch, the pace of life reaches a full gallop.
Last Thursday and Friday’s Culture Fair, conceived and organized by the student leaders of the Upper School Equity Council, provided a rich array of opportunities for our Hillsdale Campus students to explore the cultural richness of the Seven Hills community. Clutching their “passports,” the younger students circulated to student-run stations to sample food, clothing, crafts, and music from a host of cultural traditions.
On Friday morning, the Lotspeich community welcomed to campus hundreds of visitors for VIP Day. After a festive breakfast gathering in the Kalnow Gymnasium, the students hosted their special guests in their classrooms with a myriad of special activities and lively musical performances by the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students in the Taft ECC.
Friday and Saturday night brought an ambitious Upper School production of “Mamma Mia!,” a jukebox musical based on the music of ABBA. Set during a summer wedding on a remote Greek island, this elaborate production featured astonishingly talented (and courageous) performances of some very difficult music, close harmonies, spirited choreography, and creative sets and costumes.
Finally, this evening, we will gather once again for Arts Alive, our annual school-wide celebration of the arts. With dozens of stage performances as well as extensive art exhibitions in the lobbies of The Schiff Center and the Donovan Arts Center, this event will showcase the impressive range and scope of our visual and performing arts programs.
Many thanks to all of the student performers as well as to all the members of our faculty and staff and all of the volunteers who help make these events possible.
