Over the break, we received even more validation of the strength of Seven Hills’ academic program.
First, our graduating seniors have achieved some very impressive results in college admissions. An early (and very incomplete) list of the schools that seniors have been accepted to includes: Amherst, Arizona State, Bates, Boston College, Bowdoin, Brown, Butler, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Irvine, Carnegie Mellon, Cincinnati, Clemson, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Denver, DePaul, Duke, Elon, Emory, Georgetown, Goucher, Harvard, Harvey Mudd, Howard, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, UNC, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oberlin, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rice, USC, Swarthmore, Syracuse, UVA, Vanderbilt, Washington University, Wisconsin, WPI, Yale, and Yeshiva. Given the increasingly competitive college admissions landscape, we are extremely proud of these early results. We will, of course, provide a more complete list of matriculations in the coming weeks.
Secondly, for the fifth year in a row, our Seven Hills students have dominated the regional stage of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the largest annual secondary school writing competition in the United States.
Each year, in the writing division, more than 100,000 students in eighth through 12th grade submit more than 250,000 writing samples in several categories: critical essays, memoirs, personal essays, and creative writing in a host of different genres. This year, in our three-state region, where more than 50 schools — both public and private — submitted entries, across all categories, Seven Hills students earned 204 of the 579 recognitions and 27 of the 70 top prizes, called Gold Keys, qualifying for the national competition. In the critical essay category, the one that aligns most closely with the writing our students do on a regular basis, Seven Hills was even more dominant, earning an astonishing 20 of the 23 Gold Keys!
These superb results, on multiple fronts, are just one measure of what our students are achieving on some very competitive stages. Their success — and especially the hard and committed work that produced it — is a source of great pride for us all!
