What to Know Now

Walk-a-Thon — Pledge Sheets Due April 15

Pledge/donation sheets were given to each student last week by their adviser. Students should ask family and friends to sponsor them in the Walk-a-Thon by pledging a per-lap amount or a flat donation. Pledge sheets must be signed by a parent or guardian to have permission to participate, and sheets must be completed and returned by Wednesday, April 15, to the Middle School office.

Fall Sports Registration Opens on April 15

Registration for fall sports opens on Wednesday, April 15. Look for an email from Seven Hills Athletics on that day with the link. Youth Sports will register in Veracross and Middle will register with Final Forms.

Sixth Grade Indy Trip — April 16-17

On Tuesday, sixth grade parents were emailed details for the Indy trip coming up next week, April 16-17. Please make sure to review that email, paying particular attention to the packing list and instructions for medication. If you have any questions, email Mrs. Licata.

Seventh Grade Washington, D.C., Field Trip Upcoming Informational Zoom — April 23

This is a friendly reminder about our upcoming Zoom meeting scheduled for April 23 at 7 p.m. We’ll be discussing important information regarding the upcoming Washington, D.C., trip, so your attendance is greatly appreciated. Look for an email with the Zoom link and password on Monday, April 20, at 9 a.m.

Eighth Grade Picture Request

Please submit a baby/toddler picture and a current picture of your eighth grader to Hannah Hanley. These will be compiled into a slideshow to view during the Eighth Grade Closing Ceremony on May 29. Pictures are due by May 1.

Locks for Leonard Hair Fair

Hair donations collected from the Locks for Leonard Hair Fair will be donated to organizations that create wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment or suffering from autoimmune diseases. The hair fair is being organized by the Middle School but all Seven Hills students can participate. To donate your hair, follow these three steps:

  1. Get a haircut! Go to the stylist of your choice and tell them you want to donate your hair. Send before and after pics to Hannah Hanley.
  2. Bring your bagged ponytail to the Middle School office. Include your name on the bag and what grade you are in — we would love to give you a shoutout on our Seven Hills social media.
  3. Grow your hair out! You must donate at least eight inches.

We will accept hair donations through May 1.

Instrumental Concert Fast Approaching!

The Instrumental Concert is on Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. More information will follow and details will be posted on Canvas. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email Mr. Rising.

Science Spectacular — May 9

Please join us on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. to celebrate science at Seven Hills. Middle and Upper School students will be leading booths for our Early and Lower School students to take part in science-related activities. Please join us for an hour or the whole session!

Activities include hands-on stations across multiple science disciplines, interactive demonstrations, a nature walk, and native species planting project in our creek bed. We’ll also have food to purchase with a variety of food trucks, including coffee, food, and Kona Ice.

Eighth Grade Exam Week

During exam week, May 19-22, eighth graders will be dismissed at 12 p.m.

They will be rehearsing the Closing Ceremony in the time between the end of the daily exam and the 12 p.m. dismissal.

Remember that, while there is a final exam on the morning of Friday, April 25, this is not part of the shortened schedule. So Friday, April 25, will be a full day, 8:15 a.m.-3:15 pm. Please contact Judith Neidlein-Dial with questions.

Looking Ahead to Eighth Grade Closing Ceremony  — Friday, May 30

Planning is well underway for our traditional Eighth Grade Closing Ceremony. Please note the following:

  • Students will be allowed to have six guests attend this event.
  • Students should be in The Schiff Center at 8:15 a.m. on May 30 for their class photograph.
  • The Closing Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and typically lasts between 60-90 minutes.
  • At the conclusion of the ceremony, there will be a reception for our eighth graders and their families in The Schiff Center lobby. In the past, we have served finger-food and drinks.

Dress expectations for the Closing Ceremony

Listed below are the specific dress suggestions for the Closing Ceremony that have served as a guideline for previous Middle School Closing Ceremonies:

  • Dresses/outfits that are mid-thigh or longer in length and are white, off-white, or pastel in color (this can include subtle patterns, etc.), no spaghetti straps or strapless tops, appropriate shoes/sandals.
  • Khaki pants, dark/blue blazer, or an appropriately colored/styled suit, white or off-white dress shirt, tie (or bow-tie!), dark dress socks, shoes (i.e. no sneakers, tennis shoes, sandals, etc.).
  • Clothing should be comfortable and appropriate to the occasion.

Update on Director of Safety and Security Role at Seven Hills

Our Director of Safety and Security Cassandra Tucker recently resigned, and we are working to find a replacement who will begin in the fall. In the meantime, we have collaborated with our School Resource Officer to create an interim safety plan for the remainder of the school year. We are grateful to Sgt. Tucker, who implemented numerous policies and procedures during her time at Seven Hills that keep our campuses safe and secure.

Leave a Review of Seven Hills on Niche!

Help the school and prospective families — at the same time — by leaving a review on Niche. Niche is a website that parents and students can use to research schools (from primary schools to universities) based on student and parent reviews and data from sources like the National Center for Education Statistics. Sharing your perspective as a Seven Hills parent on the page helps in two ways: 1) Families who are researching schools can learn about the Seven Hills’ experience directly from current families, and 2) Reviews from parents contribute to the school’s ranking on Niche. To write a review, visit https://www.niche.com/k12/survey/, search for The Seven Hills School in the search bar, and click “Start survey.”
