Walk-a-Thon
In a few weeks, Middle School will hold our sixth annual Walk-a-Thon to raise money that will be split between two organizations, one local and one global.
Organizations
The Caring Place provides services to residents of some local neighborhoods including Kennedy Heights, Golf Manor, Pleasant Ridge, and Silverton. The Middle School has maintained a relationship with and has organized drives for more than 30 years for The Caring Place.
Water for Life is a project by Leja Bulela, Inc. to respond to the lack of water experienced by the people of Tshibombo in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Residents of this area, especially women and girls, walk several kilometers daily to reach a water source. They carry 3 to 5 gallon jugs of water weighing between 15 and 35 pounds several times a day to satisfy their family’s needs. The water is used for bathing, cooking, washing dishes, flushing the toilet, drinking, etc.
Dates
The Walk-a-Thon will run during six advisory times between April 20 and May 8. The specific dates will be announced weekly to students. Participation is completely voluntary but we are hopeful ALL Middle School students will participate.
Pledges/Donations
Pledge/donation sheets were given to each student this past Wednesday by their adviser. Students should ask family and friends to sponsor them in the Walk-a-Thon by pledging a per-lap amount or a flat donation. Pledge sheets must be signed by a parent or guardian to have permission to participate, and sheets must be completed and returned by Wednesday, April 15, to the Middle School office. Students will carry cards while walking and will receive a hole punch for each lap they walk. After the final day of walking, laps will be totaled and pledge sheets will be returned to students with their final lap count so students can begin to collect their pledges/donations.
Donations are due to the Middle School office by Thursday, May 21. Students can turn in cash or checks (made payable to The Seven Hills School).
Please note, seventh graders should try to turn in their money by Friday, May 15, before they depart for the Washington, D.C., trip.
Incentives
Any student who participates and turns in at least $20 in donations by the due date will receive an official Walk-a-Thon T-shirt!
Students who raise and turn in at least $100 in donations by the due date will get a pizza lunch the last week of school!
Big Little Talks: Parent Book Series — Exploring Gender, April 7
Children are naturally curious, and questions about gender are increasingly part of what they’re noticing, discussing, and bringing home. As parents, it can be hard to know how to respond — or even where to begin.
Join us for our next Big Little Talks Parent Book Series, inspired by the “A Kids Book About” collection.
In partnership with GLSEN, a representative will be present to help answer parents’ questions around topics involving gender. Join us on Tuesday, April 7, at 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. in the Lotspeich library. RSVP for the session that works best for you. This program is intended for Lower School parents, but all parents are welcome to attend.
Reminder: Field House Parking Lot — Temporary Traffic Flow Changes
Due to the new Lower School construction, you are only able to enter and exit the Field House lot from Bufler Lane. The exit onto Ellmarie Drive is closed through summer 2026.
