What to Know Now

Seventh Grade Pathways for Prevention

As part of The Seven Hills School’s counseling program and ongoing commitment to prevention and wellness, we have invited a health educator from Pathways for Prevention to work with our community from Nov. 17-20.

Visit Pathways for Prevention’s website for more information about this important program.

Math Placement Meetings — Monday, Nov. 17

Andrew Neyer, the mathematics department chair, will hold two optional meetings (one in-person and one via Zoom) on Monday, Nov. 17, to provide information on the Seven Hills math program. The in-person meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. in the Sixth Grade Commons. The Zoom session will be at 7 p.m. You should have received an email detailing the upcoming meetings that includes the Zoom link. Both meetings will provide the same information. This is a good opportunity to learn about our math course offerings and the potential sequences of classes your student can take through the end of high school. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Middle School math placement
  • Seven Hills math department philosophy
  • Graduation requirements for math
  • Middle School and Upper School math course offerings
  • Common math course sequences
  • Opportunities for advancement

The main purpose of this meeting is to give families a better understanding of the Middle and Upper School math program as a whole.

Please reach out to Andrew Neyer with any questions. We look forward to seeing you on Nov. 17!

Upcoming Instrumental Concert

The Middle School Instrumental concert is quickly approaching. Our first performance is on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. This is a dress-up event, and the musicians should arrive around 1:30 p.m.  The concert should last about an hour and we will be ROCKING OUT at this performance. iSpace Field Trip: Seventh Grade Two Day Field Trip — Wednesday, Dec. 17, and Thursday, Dec. 18

On Wednesday, Dec.17, half of the seventh grade class will be at iSpace, where students will be immersed into the role of scientist/astronauts. Students are put into various roles of living and working on a lunar research base where they must rely on their fellow crew members to ensure the mission’s success. Students may be tasked with operating a robotic arm, conducting experiments in a glove box, facilitating mission timeline activities, recording and transferring data, navigating, and much more! Students will need to pack a lunch for this day.

The other half of the class will be going to the Reds stadium, where the students will use their math skills to build a championship baseball team. Using budgets and statistics from Major League Baseball, they will compare players’ strengths, weaknesses, and salaries to assemble a nine-man team. We will also take a tour of the stadium. Along with the Reds, the students do a guided walking tour of Over-the-Rhine. A release form is needed. Students have two options for lunch this day: turn in $6 for pizza and drink, or they can pack a lunch.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, the groups will switch. If they were at iSpace on Wednesday, they will go to the Reds and Over-the-Rhine tour, and vice versa for the other group.

All money for pizza lunch and OTR release forms go to the seventh grade team leader, Carri Haskins. If you have any questions about this field trip, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Carri Haskins.
