First LEAD Together Event — Monday, Oct. 6

Our first LEAD Together event for families and faculty is on Monday, Oct. 6, 5:30-7:30 p.m., in the Lotspeich Library. Childcare and a pizza dinner will be offered for our Lisa Damour webinar viewing and discussion. Registration is now open. RSVP today! We have a few childcare spots left, so please RSVP to claim your spots. The LEAD Together flyer includes all events for our first semester.

Damour opened with idea that “the kids who do well over time know how to work and how to do work that they don’t feel like doing.” She focused on how to support our kids in becoming more emotionally durable and adaptable. This webinar is great for parents of kids of all ages.

Fall Break Movie Night — Wednesday, Oct. 8

Kick off the fall break right! Join the Upper School Black Student Union on Wednesday, Oct. 8, for an awesome movie night with face painting, pumpkin painting, and more. We will be watching “Soul.” If you haven’t seen it, it is a must see, and if you have seen it, it is worth seeing again! Activities will start at 6 p.m. along with pizza, drinks and snacks in The Schiff Center lobby. The movie will begin at 7:15 p.m., but no food or drinks are allowed into the theater so come early and enjoy the fun and community! All proceeds go to charity. Hope to see you there!

Parent Community News

Parent Walking Group: Step into the Conversation — Monday, Oct. 6

This group consists of Seven Hills parents from all divisions with the occasional faculty visitor. This is a casual and welcoming group. We get our steps in while meeting new people and learning more about what is happening at school. Our next meetup will be on Monday, Oct. 6, after morning drop off on the lower soccer field on the Hillsdale Campus. Very casual. Very fun. Please use this link to join the WhatsApp Chat for the meeting schedule and details.

Middle School Pizza and Play — Oct. 24

Students are invited to meet with friends to hang out and have pizza (Italianette Pizza Kitchen) before watching their Middle School friends in two fabulous one-act plays performed together “The Adventures of Rocky & Skye” and “Herby Alice Counts Down to Yesterday.” Drop your kids off (or they can come from Encore) at Stoehr Gym at 6 p.m. After dinner, kids will walk over to The Schiff Center and watch their friends perform in the play from 7-8:30 p.m. Pick up at The Schiff Center by 8:45 p.m. Cost is $10 which covers the ticket price and dinner. The actors have been working hard on their play — let’s show our support! PLUS it’s a fun way to get together! Please note, if your child is in the play, you do not need to buy this ticket. See event details and reserve your child’s ticket through Square.

A few chaperones are needed. If you can help, please sign up! Thank you in advance!

Real Talk Series: “Seen and Unseen Challenges” — Friday, Oct. 17

As part of our school’s commitment to building a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and included, we’re preparing the next installment of our Real Talk Series. This series is all about hearing powerful stories and perspectives from people with different experiences. These conversations are designed just for your Middle Schooler — to spark curiosity, open minds, and help us all better understand and celebrate the diversity that makes our Seven Hills community so special.

The first of two panel discussions this year, “Seen and Unseen Challenges,” will give students the chance to look beyond the obvious and learn about chronic challenges their peers and teachers face daily, including hearing impairments, mobility difficulties, food allergies, and medical conditions, such as respiratory issues and severe migraines.

We believe this is an important step in helping our students develop empathy and respect for one another. Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Madame Kalubi or Kristin Suer. Please print, sign, and return opt-out form to your child’s adviser if you DO NOT want your child to participate in “Seen and Unseen Challenges.” It will include advisory activities around this topic and the Real Talk panel presentation on the morning of Friday, Oct. 17.

Save the Date — Sixth Grade Creepy Critters, Friday, Oct. 31

The sixth grade will be celebrating our annual Creepy Critters Day the morning of Friday, Oct. 31, and parents will be invited in to spend some time with their child(ren) that morning. We will be working to schedule the activities to accommodate those parents who will also be attending the Lower School Halloween parades. More details to come!
