Middle School Blast Nov 17, 2023
Note from Bill…
This evening, I am looking forward to attending the fall performance of “Shuddersome: Tales of Poe & The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” on The Schiff Center stage at 7 p.m.! With a cast of over 60 students, this fall production puts students front-and-center, empowering them to take risks by being on full-display in front of family and friends. Some of our students will be on the stage while others will be behind the scenes, mastering the sound and light boards or handling scenery and costumes. Whatever their roles, these students will bring to life months of preparation and rehearsals. Will there be mistakes and miscues? Probably. Will there be nervous adolescents holding back their tears of worry? Most likely. Will there by a sense of accomplishment and pride once the play ends this evening and tomorrow? Most definitely. This is what I love about Middle School — students taking risks and putting themselves on full display, in all of their awkward glory and pride! A huge thanks and appreciation to Mr. Jacob Hauser and Ms. Kathryn Rosenberg for their tremendous efforts in bringing this play to life!
As we prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving Break (starting at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21), please take time to rest, breathe, and reflect on all of the good fortune we have in our respective lives. As I pause with my family this break, I am so grateful for the joy and privilege of being a part of the Seven Hills Middle School community.

Eighth Grade “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Field Trip
On Tuesday, Nov. 21, our eighth graders are in for a real treat! We’ll be heading to The Otto M. Budig Theater in downtown Cincinnati to witness a performance of William Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” presented by the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. This main stage production is a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience the magic of professional theater before delving into the play in detail this spring. We have secured tickets for this field trip, and we sincerely hope that every eighth grader will be able to join us. Please notify the Middle School office if your family anticipates an absence on this day. We anticipate leaving campus at 9 a.m. and will return in time for a late lunch at 1 p.m. The afternoon will offer a chance for reflection and our traditional Thanksgiving assembly.
Middle School Instrumental Concert — Saturday, Dec. 2
The Middle School Instrumental Ensembles will be performing on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 2:30 p.m. on The Schiff Center stage! Musicians should be ready to go by 2:10 p.m. This is a dress up event for students and those details will be posted on Schoology. Looking good, smelling neutral! If you have any questions, please email Mr. Rising.
Now Accepting Frederick Hauck Scholarship Applications
Dr. Frederick A. Hauck, honored in 1979 as Cincinnati’s Greatest Living Citizen, was a world-renowned nuclear scientist and philanthropist. He served on the Atomic Energy Commission and worked closely with Albert Einstein. In addition, he was a businessman, explorer, historian, industrialist, metallurgist, nature lover, and humanitarian.
Thanks to his generosity, The Seven Hills School has established the Frederick Hauck Scholarship to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding commitment and achievement in the fields of mathematics and/or science. The school awards Frederick Hauck Scholars currently in eighth through 11th grade with a one-year prize scholarship to be applied toward tuition of the Seven Hills Upper School.
A committee of faculty from the Seven Hills Upper and Middle Schools will evaluate applicants. Qualifications that the committee will examine include interest and ability in science and mathematics and related activities. In addition to academic achievement, the selection committee considers activities outside of the classroom that demonstrate a special interest in science and/or mathematics.
Students in eighth through 11th grade who wish to apply must submit their applications via this online form. Only digital applications submitted via this form will be accepted. Applications are due by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024.
In addition to the application, students must request letters of recommendation from two math and/or science teachers. At least one of the teachers must currently teach the applicant. Requests for letters of recommendation must be made no later than 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Winners of the Hauck Scholarship Competition will be announced in February. Please contact Ms. Sarah Mullan in the mathematics department with any questions.

Additionally, spots 201-208 across from the Red Barn are unassigned and available for visitors.
