What to Know Now

The Honeycomb! A Community Service Opportunity on Oct. 30

The Honeycomb is a Lower School community service initiative where students come together to spread kindness, responsibility, and community — our Hive values — in action. Meeting twice a month after school, we learn how even the smallest acts can make the biggest ripples. Our third session is on Thursday, Oct. 30, at Doherty.  We will be making blankets for Project Linus!

Each opportunity has a small fee to cover the cost of supplies for our projects! Register for ONE or ALL of our sessions!

Parent-Teacher Conference Registration

The parent-teacher conference sign-ups will be live and available online through your Veracross Parent Portal beginning Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 8 a.m. Parent-Teacher Conference sign-ups will close on Monday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. If you have specific teachers, times and dates that you would like, we encourage you to register early.

Halloween Parade — Oct. 31

On Friday, Oct. 31, at 8:40 a.m., the students will parade in their Halloween costumes through the buildings then out the doors to the driveway. They will then parade down to the gym where teachers and students will get a closer look at the costumes, then return to their classrooms. Parents are invited to line the driveway to watch all the ghouls and goblins go by. Coffee will be provided by the Doherty PC.

When choosing a costume, please do not allow weapons or masks of any kind to come to school. This includes anything that may be part of a costume such as pirate swords, Thor’s hammer, or Michael Myers’ mask!

ATB is Closing at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31

Please plan to pick up by 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 so everyone can get home safely for Trick or Treat!

Growing Together: Doherty Oak Tree Planting Event

Please join us on Saturday, Nov. 1, to help plant 180 oak saplings, grown from a Doherty tree. We will plant them in a temporary location at Hillsdale Campus and then move them to create a Doherty Grove once the new Lower School building is finished. Please drop in anytime 9 a.m.-12 p.m. to help plant, play, and tour the future Lower School site. No RSVP required and all ages are encouraged to join us as we start to build the future Lower School environment.

Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with family activities, including decorating pumpkins with words of kindness in honor of World Kindness Day. Special Persons’ Day — New Schedule this Year!

This year, based on thoughtful feedback from some of our Special People and their families, we are excited to announce a new format for Special Persons’ Day.

Rather than following a set schedule, we will host the event in an open house style. Special guests are welcome to come and go at any time during the designated hours and are not required to stay for an entire hour or hour and a half in a single classroom.

Each class will feature a special project or program for guests to enjoy. This new format offers more flexibility, allowing families with multiple students in different grades to visit multiple classrooms more easily. With thoughtful planning, guests should be able to enjoy time with each student without long waits or multiple trips up and down the stairs.

Please note: There will be no lunch with Unit III students and their Special Persons on this day, and it will remain a full school day. Families are welcome to take their students home after the program if they wish.

We hope this new structure makes the day more enjoyable and accessible for everyone!

Invitations will be sent early next week so please make sure you fill out and return this Special Persons’ Day form if you haven’t already done so (they were due Oct. 22).

Holiday Care

When school is out … Holiday Care is in! For our next set of “no school days” on Nov. 12, 13, and 14, we will offer Holiday Care at the Hillsdale Campus for pre-kindergarten for 2-year-olds through fifth grade! We will be open from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Remember, there must be at least 20 students registered two weeks prior to program start for the programs to run! Register now!
