Doherty Blast Jan 12, 2024
Dear Doherty Families,
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable break. At Doherty, we are in full swing and have embraced 2024!
We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Phillips back from her maternity leave this month and will send Senora Diersing out on her leave at the end of the month.
We have a change to our substitute teacher assignment for our Spanish classes. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our initial substitute teacher, Mrs. Fontana-Berul, will no longer be able to accept the role. We are pleased to have hired Katya Ramos, who will take over the classes starting when Senora Diersing leaves. They will work together to ensure a smooth transition and familiarize Mrs. Ramos with the classroom structures and routines. Mrs. Ramos is a long-time Seven Hills parent and is excited to join the Doherty faculty.

- Jan. 15 — No School. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Tracy

Save the Date(s) — February Events
We have two February events for you to put on your calendar: Books for Lunch on Friday, Feb. 2, at The Summit Hotel (this is an adults-only lunch event), and the Winter Family Social on Friday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Urban Air (bring the whole fam!). More details to come.
Parent Euchre Night Is Back!
Doherty and Lotspeich parents: join us for a night of parental socializing (and cards) at MadTree! If you’re new to the glorious game of euchre, don’t fret — it’s (relatively) easy to learn, and you’ll be among patient Midwesterners. The hardest part is not getting wing sauce on the cards. Let us know you’re coming by grabbing a “Euchre Player” slot in the sign ups. See you at the table with the blue and yellow balloons! No interest in cards but still want to hang? Come on out! Our next one is Jan. 18 — mark your calendars now and sign up early so we can gauge interest.
Winter Family Social
Please join us on Friday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Urban Air Adventure Park. The school will be closed for professional development so this will be a good way to get some energy out! Attractions include trampolines, warrior courses, climbing walls, tubes playground, ropes course and much more (some height restrictions apply). The sign-up link is coming soon.
The cost is $20 for ultimate tickets (age 6 and older). Ultimate tickets are valid for all attractions in the facility. The cost is $10 for deluxe tickets (age 5 and younger). Deluxe tickets do not include access to the climbing wall (must be 41” tall), sky rider and ropes course (must be 48” tall), or laser tag. If your 5-year-old or younger child is tall enough and wants to participate in ultimate attractions, you will need to purchase an ultimate ticket instead.
Parents and chaperones do not need to purchase a ticket for themselves if they are not participating. If the cost of attending this event prevents your child from participating, please contact Tracy Murch to discuss financial assistance. All requests are strictly confidential. Tickets are limited and must be purchased by end of day Feb. 8!
LGBTQIA+ Parent Community Group
Last year, we launched a new space for LGBTQIA+ families, which is being offered as a continued push toward our goal of an inclusive school. It is a new year, and we want to bring the families back together and invite any new families into our community. If you are interested in being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, please fill out this interest form.
