Students in Katie Swinford’s ninth grade world history class work on a timeline of ancient and modern events to warm up for covering 4,500 years of history throughout the year.

What to Know Now

Welcome Back!

We’ve had a great beginning to the year in the Upper School. Students are engaged in their learning and relationship-building, and it’s wonderful to have the halls buzzing again. Please keep reading for some important information for the upcoming week.

There is a lot of information in our summer mailing as well. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Upper School at 513.728.2460.

New Year, New Gear – Spirit Day Friday, Aug. 22!

During that week, every student will receive a new piece of Seven Hills spirit wear as a gift from the school to kick off the 2025-26 year.

We hope they’ll wear their new Seven Hills shirt today, Friday, Aug. 22 for our first Spirit Day of the year. We can’t wait to see everyone’s Stinger Pride and to celebrate a great first week in style!

Parent Night — Monday, Aug. 25

On Monday, Aug. 25, we invite all parents and caregivers to join us and get inside the classrooms. Ninth grade families and families of new 10-12th grade students are invited for a pre-session at 6 p.m. in the theater classroom in The Schiff Center, and all families are invited for a brief opening session at promptly 6:30 p.m. with key highlights from our year’s focus and information from the Parent Community.  Following this introduction, you’ll have the chance to walk your children’s schedules, meet their teachers, and learn about the learning adventures that await.

Parking for Students

Tenth to 12th graders are permitted to drive themselves to school and park, provided they have an active driver’s license. Dean of Students Dan Polifka sent out an email to students with information, but they can fill out the parking form any time to secure a parking spot. Students should not complete the form until they have an active driver’s license. Students should not park at school until they have a confirmed parking permit from the school. Email Mr. Polifka with any questions.

Attendance

Please report all attendance changes on your Parent Portal in Veracross. If you need assistance, please contact the Upper office at upper.office@7hills.org.

Requests for Course Changes

Occasionally, a student may have to change a class to find a better fit or pursue a new interest. Students should email Dr. Paull with requested changes and/or to schedule a time to review options. Please note that in order to keep balanced classes, we can’t honor requests to simply change sections, teachers, or to be with friends.  All course change requests must be made and approved by a parent (via email to Dr. Paull) by 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.

Canvas Set-Up For Parents

Parents are invited to be “observers” for their children’s classes. An observer can see assignments, due dates, and if any assignments are missing.  Upper School is a time for independence, so we ask you to coach your children on connecting with their teachers if they have questions, but as parents, we can act as an important safety net to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. See below for how to set up an account and gain observer status. Here is a PDF version of the instructions.

Bridging the Gap Survey

If you haven’t had a chance to share some insights on your child(ren), please take a moment to fill out this short questionnaire. Information will be shared with all of your student’s teachers.

Parent Association News

Please RSVP — The Upper School Parent & Faculty Social, Sept. 14, 4-7 p.m.

You’re invited to mix and mingle with Upper School parents and faculty. The Seven Hills community is special because of YOU. Let’s all come together to welcome new families, connect with old friends, and build partnerships together. This event was planned based on the feedback from the Upper School Parent Survey. We want this event to be for you and about you, while in service to our children. For planning purposes, please RSVP today via Evite.

Upper School Parent Committee Meetings

Please join us! Your input will enrich our school community for students and families. We welcome new faces and ideas! The meetings are held in the Knust Conference Room in the Upper School at 8:30 a.m. If you aren’t sure where that is, send us a line and we can help! Dates are Sept. 17, Nov. 12, Jan. 7, and Feb. 11.

New Program — Fueling Futures with Renee Mattson, Ph.D.

Please RSVP to join an interactive evening with Dr. Renee Mattson on Oct. 22, 6:30-8 p.m. During this discussion, we will explore the importance of empowering parents to help propel their children successfully from high school and prepare them for the real world by focusing on the now. The parent role evolves and this dynamic discussion will help parents on their journey while helping their children. This program was chosen by the majority in the Upper parent survey.

Wow! We Have Amazing Parents at This School!

If you are interested in sharing your talents and passions with the school community, please let us know! There is something for everyone from professional experienceships to events to virtual coordination. We are better because of our community. Please use our Google Form.

Walking Group

This is an all school, casual group of parents and the occasional faculty member. We get our steps in while meeting new people and learning more about what is happening at school. The group meets after drop off in the morning and people come and go as their schedule permits. Very casual. Very fun. Please join the WhatsApp Chat for the schedule and details.

Hi! Please drop us a line

Please reach out to the Parent Committee anytime. We would love to hear from you. Happy first week of school! Warm regards, Carolyn, Katy, Karen, and Stephanie. Email us at us.pa@7hills.org.
